Instilling in young children a joy of reading is a great gift and one that will support all their later learning. Reading for pleasure has a very positive impact on educational performance. The UK government’s Education Research Standards Team tells us, “Evidence suggests that there is a positive relationship between reading frequency, reading enjoyment and attainment.” It is so important that children learn to read fluently as quickly as possible. Inevitably, fluent readers will learn more, because they can read and gain knowledge for themselves.
This course gives positive strategies for encouraging parents to read to their children and share the joy that books can bring. This has benefits not just supporting early reading skills but also promotes closer positive relationships between parent and child.
